I am writing this as a patriotic American and concerned senior citizen to make the public aware of a disgraceful and demeaning event that took place at my home early in the morning of Thursday, November 3, 2022.
Shortly after 8 a.m. I was rousted out of bed by a loud noise that literally shook my bedroom walls. When I went to investigate the noise, I realized that my alarm system was blaring and to my shock, there were about a dozen FBI agents in my living room in full gear with guns pointed up the stairs as they ordered me to come down stairs with my hands empty and raised in the air. Because I was just getting out of bed all I had on was a tee-shirt and underwear, so I asked if I could at least put on some pants. They just kept ordering me to come down with my empty hands in the air. I was frightened for my life as they proceeded to shout at me and I did not want them to get the wrong idea if they heard me walk back to my bedroom to put on some clothing, so of course I complied.
Once I got to the bottom of the stairs, they turned me around, put my hands behind my back and proceeded to walk me to my now broken front door, which is when I realized they were going to parade me into the street half naked in front of my neighbors in the drizzling 46 degree weather.
On my way out the door I asked if they had a warrant and all they told me was that I could see it when they were done going through my house and taking items that belonged to my boyfriend, Joerg Arnu. I asked what they were looking for and all they said was "photos of a military base".
I was put into an SUV where I sat for some time. One of the agents finally did bring me some clothing to wear and when I asked to use the restroom I was reluctantly taken back into the house where an agent stood at the partially opened door while I did my business. It was all quite embarrassing, but what came next was even worse.
We have a retirement home in Rachel, Nevada and Joerg happened to be there on this date. The agents started interrogating me about Joerg's whereabouts and I immediately told them exactly where he was, but they insisted he was not there. I told them where the bedroom was and that he might not hear them at the door, but they insisted he was not there, although they knew his vehicle was there because they broke open the new steel garage door we had just installed.
Of course, this immediately made me physically sick with worry and anxiety, believing that something happened to him. The agents continued to interrogate me about our Rachel neighbors and Joerg's habits all the while insisting that the raids occurred simultaneously and Joerg was missing.
Finally, after some time and a lot of anxiety on my part they admitted that the team of agents sent to Rachel had not even tried to go into the house. Had the agent in Las Vegas simply made a mistake about the timing of the raid in Rachel? I doubt it, since he was constantly on the phone with an agent in Rachel. In fact, I believe their insistence that he was not in the home in Rachel was more of their intimidation tactics.
I spoke to the FBI agents in Rachel twice by phone and cooperated fully as I explained to them the layout of our Rachel home. I continued to fear for Joerg's safety until they told me he was in fact there, (as I had said he would be) and was in their custody. And although the warrant was not for his arrest, they had him in handcuffs before they hauled him out into the yard in freezing cold weather.
We have yet to have a reason for this raid, nobody had been accused or arrested and my boyfriend's personal property is still in FBI custody with no recourse for getting it returned or even a response to repeated phone calls.
The damages these agents did to our homes is in the thousands of dollars and they lied to us by saying the repairs would be reimbursed. We now know that we will have to cover the repairs ourselves and on retirement incomes that adds to the stress we have endured.
We understand that these agents have protocols to follow and they have an important and dangerous job to perform, but I do not understand why they are allowed to treat unarmed, cooperative, half dressed, senior citizens in such a demeaning and harsh manner. I was not even mentioned on the warrant but was treated like a criminal. This is just not right!
My boyfriend was born in Germany, but his love and respect for America made him decide to become an US citizen, a responsibility he does not take lightly. As for myself, I am a proud American and hold a position on the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 40 in Henderson Nevada. We both have a lot of respect for our military and understand the important role it plays in our nation's safety. But this incident has caused me to fear the overreach of some governing agencies.
I sincerely hope that someone will look into this breach of our civil rights and perhaps this can be prevented from happening to others.
